S is (mostly) for superhero pretend play here and we do play superheroes A LOT, but I wanted to share this sorting of coloured pompoms using Duplo blocks for a long time and it fits in perfectly with this weeks letter S of our A-Z of Play series, so here you go!
I set up this tray with the large building blocks(Duplo) and pompoms to keep a 2 year old occupied for a while. His 4.5 year old brother also joined in the fun. It took me about five minutes to find the blocks I wanted to use and add the pompoms. They rearranged the blocks later when they played.
This colourful tray works on colour recognition, colour matching, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. They add the colour pompoms to the corresponding colour blocks. You can add tweezers or pegs to the tray too.
While your child play you can talk about the colour names to enhance language and count the pompoms to work on counting skills too.
