Whenever (most)kids hear the word challenge, they are (miraculously) interested in the activity! This sorting stars straw challenge was such an activity!
This is easy and quick to set up. All you need is a tray like this(or you could use any tray with two cups), two size stars and a straw(or two).
Have a practice round first, where your child sort the stars according to size by sucking them up using the straw. This is not as easy as it sounds. Your child will have to practice to get the straw at the right angle so it will stay on the straw when moving the straw. This is a great activity to develop facial muscles, which are used in speech, too!
Sorting the stars according to size, which requires visual discrimination, are also a skill used in this playful activity.
After a few practice rounds, time your child to see how long it takes her/him to move the stars. This could be played with more than one player(each one with their own straw) or individually: trying to beat your own time each time.
A fun challenge that can be a fun family activity too on Christmas Eve!
