Do your kids love busy boxes or busy bags? They will sure love this Zoo busy box! It was so easy to make and provides hours of open-ended fun and learning.

Zoo Busy Box
Firstly, I have to confess that I took an easy route since I could not find any felt animals to buy, and did not feel creative enough to make my own, I used stickers, stuck onto felt as an alternative! (You can however find ones like THESE on Amazon.)

Felt animals Materials you need:

  • Lunch box
  • Felt
  • Zoo felt animals Or Zoo stickers
  • Play trees, rocks etc.

Materials
I used one of our plastic lunch boxes and lined it with various colours of felt, green for grass, blue for water and brown for field/ground.

Felt pieces
Then, the stickers were stuck onto felt and cut out. I tried to keep the shape of the sticker so it looked neater.

Stickers
I am being realistic and realize these stickers will not last for a long time, so I *will* find some felt zoo animals soon and swop them out?

As as easy as that! Now the zoo busy box is ready to be played with! It can be arranged and re-arranged. Stories can be made up…The kids can play with it during quiet time, travel time, waiting times…

Play time
A busy box like this is not just for fun, it teaches children about zoo animals, the names of the animals, which habitats they live in, counting the animals, pairing the type of animals together in “cages” etc. Incidental learning at its best!

Zoo Busy Box
Would your child like to play with a zoo busy box? Perhaps he/she will make then also like our whole collection and it can be found HERE!
