Make a textured surprise board for your baby to play and explore!

It is mostly different textured fabrics that I cut into different shapes and then also used other items that is interesting to touch. I have found that baby brother is a tad tactile “sensitive” with certain types of textures and hopefully this will help him a bit.

See his first reaction? Curious, but don’t want to touch it just yet.

I thought of making it more interesting and placed stickers under the shapes so when he lifts it up, he will “find” the “surprise”(I think Lella will also like this). It was fairly easy to make. Here is how.

What you need:

– different textured fabric scraps
– different interesting items you want to add
– a big card board
– strong glue (I used Bostik)
– stickers and glitter glue, optional

What to do:

Simply place the items all around on the board without glueing them down untill you are certain that it is the way you want them. Add the stickers and then stick everything down, leaving flaps for baby to lift up. I did not use coloured board, because the items are the focus, and it stands out more on an uninteresting background. I still want to use some glitter glue just to “hide” some of the ugly pieces in between.

He relaxed a bit and grabbed the yellow pompom the whole time! No matter how I turned the board he just went for the pompom! It must have been the bright color! Later he explored the rest of the board, very carefully. I showed him how to lift the flaps and he discovered the surprises underneath.

Hours of frugal fun for baby on a textured surprise board!
