Rainbow sums pin

Whether you are working on addition or subtraction skills, these rainbow mats are such a good hands-on activity to do just that. Pair it with rainbow mini erasers(or any other rainbow or colorful manipulatives) and count it out. PS: Have you seen this Roll-a-Rainbow playdough mat?

What you need:

  • the FREE printables(find the download instructions below)
  • mini erasers
  • dry-erase marker
  • dice

How to use this printable:

Laminate the printables, or use a dry-erase pocket. Roll two dice. Write the numbers in the blocks on the printable. (Remind the kids: If you use the subtraction mat, place the bigger number in the first block.)

Adding numbers

Count out the rainbows and then either add or subtract the number of rainbows to get the answer.

Counting

Write down the answer! Physically counting out the mini erasers helps young kids to grasp, not only counting, but it develops their number sense as well. For example: Seeing the number 3 counted out is less than the number 5.
