Felt cookie counting is SO fun! Set it up as a pretend play station so that it does not even feel like learning, only playing! Make a baking shop and take “orders”!

What is your preschoolers’ favorite way to practice learning to count? My kids love learning through play and used to love cookie counting when they were younger!

The felt set I used was that of this Felt Cookies Baking Set we have(and makes a great gift too). The cookies itself was cut using a real star cookie cutter as a template. There is a roller and a spatula, plus pompoms as “sprinkles”. For this activity, I just added the foam numbers too to work the counting bit in.

Let the kids “roll out” the cookies and “bake” them. Then pick a number to decide how many sprinkles each cookie must get. When setting it up as a group pretend activity, the orders can be according to the numbers the “buying customers” pick. This can work on number order and not just counting like with the sprinkles. Or, the numbers can show how many cookies the customer wants to buy OR even be the money they use!

I am sure your kiddos will also come up with ideas during play and will learn in their own way using this felt cookie setup. Have fun!
