I have another fun DIY lacing idea for you, perfect for preschoolers: emoji lacing plates!
emoji lacing plates

This is super quick to make, and great for little fingers to work with and it makes a great busy activity for traveling.

You need:

  • Small paper plates
  • Emoji stickers
  • Hole punch
  • String

materials needed

Punch holes all around the plate, even numbers:

Add emoji stickers to the holes, in pairs:

Secure the one end of the (long enough to go around to all the holes)string at the back of the plate with sticky tape:

Ready to play!

Ask your child to point out the pairs/friends first. Then show him/her how to lace the string to connect the pairs/friends. This is quite tricky for little ones since it needs fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, visual discrimination and planning skills: going in at the one end, grab it at the other end, pull it through all the way, look for friend and lace through that one. Then go to the next emoji and do the same.

One can use this lacing plate idea with any stickers or you can write letters, numbers, shapes etc. on the plate for kids to match up. See these Upper & Lower Case Matching cards, Matching Heart Stickers Lacing and Skip Counting Lacing Plates.
