Our craft supplies were in a dismal state and long overdue to get organised. Digging through boxes to find supplies is a sure way to dampen your creative mood, right? Maka a craft supplies station or organizer reusing cardboard rolls and cans!

I made this craft station/organizer with minimal supplies-mostly from the recycling bin, and the end result was a compact, tidy workstation! Plus, using recyclables made this a frugal solution too!

What you need:
  • A square hardboard ( I used a cake board)
  • Tubes of various sizes
  • Paint
  • Foam sheets
  • Glue

What to do:

I used tubes of different sizes. Taller containers at the back, shorter containers at the front. You can use any sturdy tubes, the Pringle containers worked well and I cut a few of them shorter. You can do this by using a sharp craft knife. Empty rolls from boxing tape were used for the front containers as they are fairly wide and easy for little hands to access materials. The small rolls came from insulation and sellotape/sticky tape.

Arrange your containers on the board to get an idea of how you would like the final layout.

Next, paint your containers. I used blackboard paint as it compliments the look of our craft table as a whole. If you are going to use different colours, it’s always advisable to paint a coat of white first especially when using printed recycled materials. If you are using normal hardboard, sand lightly before you paint to give the paint a bit of “grip.”

Once the paint is dry, add extra decorations to your containers if so desired. You can use scrapbook paper of different patterns, stickers, crayons, marker pens, anything goes.

Round off the top of the containers to tidy cutting lines. I used foam sheets, cut into two centimetre strips for the taller containers and one centimetre strips for the shorter tubes and glued it to the top rims.

Glue your containers to the board. I used a glue gun as it bonds instantly and is more durable than normal glue.

Lastly, let the kids help to sort the craft materials into their respective containers and get crafting! All neat and tidy! A frugal craft supplies station or organizer for your craft room!
