We just love our South African Soetkoekies, also known as sugar cookies. Decorated, or plain, dipped into a cuppa or not, it is just a yummy, plain, no-fuss and no-frills cookie. This soetkoekies recipe is a family favorite for any occasion, especially at Christmas and other holidays.

This is the perfect recipe for decorating cookies with the kids because it is great for keeping its shape. Use colored icing sugar, sprinkles or small sweets for a fun afternoon of cookie decorating. It is our go-to recipe for other fun cookie ideas too, as you would have seen in these Easter Egg Cookies, Conversation Hearts and Flower Cookies. It is lovely dipped into melted chocolate with sprinkles, yummmm!

Ingredients
- 5 cups of flour
- 5 teaspoons of baking powder
- 3 eggs
- 250g butter
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar
- cinnamon/nutmeg
- pinch of salt
Method:
– Beat the eggs and sugar
– Add the dry ingredients
– Add the butter
– Mix well
– Roll out, press shapes and bake at 180’C for about 15-20minutes or until golden brown
– Decorate as you wish

South African Soetkoekies aka Sugar Cookies

These Soetkoekies also known as sugar cookies are easy and versatile for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 5 cups of flour
- 5 teaspoons of baking powder
- 3 eggs
- 250g butter
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar

Instructions
1. Beat the eggs and sugar
2. Add the dry ingredients
3. Add the butter
4. Mix well
5. Roll out, press shapes
6. Bake at 180’C for about 15-20minutes or until golden brown
