Robot Rhyming Mats

Here are robot rhyming mats for you to use with your early readers!

Rhyming words or as some call it- word families, are great to get early readers to read words that almost sound the same. It helps with auditory discrimination and makes reading easier too!

If a reader can read the last bit of a word, the rhyming part- “ug”, he can add the first letter easily to form the word- “j” + “ug”. This skill is called blending- blending one part of a word with a new sound to form a new word.

I have made available 5 rhyming mats, one for each vowel as a freebie today(pictured above). Simply cut the pictures and fit them to the correct mat. Make it reusable by laminating the mats and picture cards. To make it travel-friendly, add Velcro dots to the mats and the cards.
