Y is for Yarn in our A-Z of Play at Home Series.

We have a play date almost everyday with the cousins, since we live right next door to each other! Usually the kids just play whatever they want to: School-School, Vacation-Vacation, Mommy/Daddy or Making Mud or play with Cars or Legos or or… Now and again I will have an activity planned like these fun yarn games! This is great for Indoor play!
Yarn Games

Follow the String/Yarn

I gave them a ball of yarn, one takes the one end(while the others wait at the other end) and walk throughout the house, rolling down the yarn as she/he goes along. She will go under the table, around the chairs, over the bed etc until there is no yarn left and hide somewhere at the end of the yarn. She will call out for the rest of the friends to follow the yarn in search of her hiding spot! When found, the yarn gets rolled up again and someone else has a turn to go hide again! This is so much fun, the next day they played outside!

You do need a loooong piece of yarn to have more fun with this, and it is quite tricky to show them how to roll it up again, it got tangled up after the second day of playing!

Laser Yarn/String

Use chairs and table feet to criss cross the yarn between. The kids must try to get to the other side without touching the “laser beams”! Fun and this works on motor planning too!

Use about half of the yarn length you used for the previous game, so if the yarn got tangled up with the previous game, this is a great way to use the smaller pieces.

laser stringI am sure we will get more ideas on how to play with one ball of yarn!

Do you have any ideas? I’d love to add them!
