Are your kids/students working on spelling long vowels? Use these fun long vowel spelling options resources to do just that! PLUS, see below all our Long Vowel resources in one place.
Learning about the different spelling options can be confusing. So many ways to write the same sound? Yep, that is English for you! Using fun activities and repetition is the key to locking this knowledge into the brain. Dyslexic kiddos and kids with other literacy difficulties find activities like these very helpful since it is visual.
You can print out these long vowel clip cards and use it with pegs/clothespins, or, simply laminate and use a dry-erase marker to circle the correct spelling option. (Writing the different options into the places might help some students visualize the correct spelling better, like a trial and error method.)
TIP: If you want to make this self-checking, simply write very lightly at the back of the card the word with the correct spelling. This might be a good idea for a literacy center activity.
These cards include all the long vowel options plus the oi/oy and au/aw sounds. You can also get the long vowels activity in digital format, to practice yet again and have opportunity for repetition to etch the correct spelling into those brains!
