Jesus Storybook series

Our story is Daniel’s Scary Sleepover: Daniel in the Lion’s den, and we set up a small world scene!

Ok, so “set up” was not very difficult: we have boulders in our backyard we use often for play, like the time we made it a Zoo or just jumping from! What was tricky, was to find a man toy. The only ones we have are a Ken(proportions not right in terms of the lions), and a tiny cowboy. So we borrowed the cousins Indiana Jones toy, and had to “change” up his clothes a bit. This led to questions about clothes in the Bible times, perfect history learning opportunity. So, you can use whatever you have to make any small world, and the kids will enjoy it, even if it is not exactly perfect!

W helped to set up:

I told the story about Daniel, while playing it out with “Daniel” aka Indiana and the lions. Afterwards, they played out the story by themselves.

My kids are fortunate to have seen lions in a lion park we visited a few months ago. They even got to cuddle the cubs! But they also saw the adult lions and how scary they can be, so this story was something they could relate too, and understand the miracle of God “closing” the lions’ mouths.

The next morning when W saw the lion toys, he said: “Toegesluit!”, “closed up!”

So I guess, something stuck! A successful storytelling, and fun play activity too!

Such a cute idea and will definitely be a hit with my kids. Especially because they get to act out the story afterwards.
