Create an Autumn collage as the days are getting cooler and kids spend more time indoors.

Autumn collage

Before you start the activity, you can go for a walk. Pay special attention to the colors of Autumn/Fall and falling leaves.

You will need:

  • A4 Art canvas panel or hardboard
  • Craft paint – orange, brown, yellow, blue
  • Crepe paper – orange, yellow, red, green
  • Small dried-out branch
  • Small block of wood and string
  • Pillow stuffing or cotton ball
  • Art sand
  • Glue
  • Modge podge

What to do:

Paint the background, and start with the blue for the sky. Paint a lighter yellow, going into orange and brown towards the foreground.

Autumn Background

While waiting for the background to dry, tear the crepe paper into small bits and mix all the colors.

Autumn Fall leaves

Paint a layer of podge over the foreground of the picture and sprinkle the small pieces of crepe paper. Use the podge to dot it down here and there, but do not flatten it completely.

Size the branch to fit the picture and glue small pieces of crepe paper onto the branch.

Spread some glue onto the sky area and use the cotton wool or pillow stuffing to form clouds.

Fall art

Glue the tree onto the board. Wood glue would be best for the branch, dot glue onto the areas where the branch lies flat against the board. you might need to add a bit of weight until the glue is dry(sinkers for fishing make excellent weights for craft projects).

Make the swing by tying a piece of rope around the small wooden block and tie onto a tree branch.

Swing

Complete the picture by spreading some glue in the foreground and sprinkling the art sand. Once dry, shake off the excess sand. And done!
