Set up this fun playdough cookies and bead sprinkles activity to keep your kiddos playing, and learning, for a while!

playdough cookies and bead sprinkles

Every two weeks or so I make a quick batch of Playdough in the microwave. This time the kids wanted green again and wanted to make playdough cookies!

We got the pony beads out to decorate the cookies, and later used them for counting and sorting too!

hand strength

Did you know that rolling dough and pressing shapes require hand strength? That same hand strength is needed for writing one day, so let your little one play with playdough often.

counting

Use playdough and beads for playful counting, and subtracting too.

fine motor skills

Sorting the beads into colors is excellent for matching skills and using small beads is great for fine motor skills too!

Playdough is a lovely manipulative toy for young children to learn while playing. Imaginative play as demonstrated in this post is great for learning. It is best to let your child play without too much interference. Even though the learning is child-led, learning still takes place, and sometimes this type of learning will “stick” more.
