Make Old McDonald farm animal puppets with your kids and sing and play along with the rhyme “Old McDonald had a farm”!
It’s Rhyme Time! Last week we had fun making teapot magnets to go with the rhyme ‘I’m a Little Teapot”. This week we have the rhyme ‘Old McDonald’, and who doesn’t love that rhyme? We made cute farm animal puppets from wooden picnic spoons:
What you need:
- Wooden spoons (It can be the picnic ones or regular wooden spoons, or even popsicle sticks with a circle attached)
- markers
- googly eyes
- other decorative items
How to make puppets:
Draw the faces of the farm animals with the markers first. If necessary look at a few pictures of farm animals first as examples, but the kids could use their own creativity to make any farm animals. We had a duck, dog, pig, cow, horse and funny-looking sheep! Add the googly eyes.
Lastly, add decorative items such as cotton wool for the sheep, feathers for the duck etc.
Make a puppet show singing the rhyme and use your farm animal puppets to play out the rhyme. We used the window of our playhouse and had fun “playing” the song!
Such a fun farm animals craft that goes well with the rhyme “Old McDonald had a farm”!
