This series I am starting is about mommy projects, mostly upcycling projects. Things I wanted to make for a long time, but keep putting it off! Now I am accountable for doing that because I am promising to show you every other week what I made. And just maybe it will inspire you to also be creative and do the projects you always wanted to do! I invite you to share on the Facebook page a before and then an after photo of projects you complete! Let’s help each other, by showing support too!
I am a super sentimental mommy, and wants to keep some special baby things of my kids, so I will remember the time when they were small. But, it does not help it is packed away in a cupboard! So for this week’s ” From This To That” Mommy Project, I turned two small receiving blankets into a winter sheet for my son’s big cot.
I’ve started with this simple project, just to get me back to the sewing machine(I am not a big fan)! I must add, I will be forever grateful to my mother, who taught me how to use a sewing machine, although sometimes with much groaning from my side! I am not very good at it, but at least I can do the basics. (For more difficult projects, I will still turn to mom for help!)
So, I took these two blankets, cut them up in smaller rectangles, and sew them back together again in a quilted look, making a big enough rectangle winter sheet to fit over the big cot’s mattress. I wanted to keep the pretty edge, but somehow didn’t think it through and pulled it off where I shouldn’t have! Ah well, you don’t see it in any case, because it gets tucked underneath the mattress.
And there it is, the first mommy upcycling project done!
What do you think?
I’ll be pinning this post to the Upcycling Projects Pinterest board, where you will find more projects that I have completed and some that I still would like to do, pinned there for inspiration;)
What a wonderful way to recycle! I love how the project turned out.
Thank you Deirdre!
Looks nice! I love projects on the sewing machine 🙂 — although I have to admit, for some I prefer to use the serger vs. my old workhorse.
It can get tricky, hey?
That is such a great idea! I love that you recycled the receiving blankets to make a Winter sheet. That is so creative and useful too.
Thanks Theresa!
Love this! I never even used some of our receiving blankets since they didn’t stay closed – this is perfect!
Exactly Amanda!
