Are your children learning about the Magic E or silent E now? Or do they just need more practice with Magic E words? These Magic E Word Mazes are great for extra word work and good for fine motor skills too!

Teaching the rule of magic or silent e can be easy if the main rule or concept is understood- the e gives the vowel the power to say it’s name in a word. For example: in the word hat, the vowel is short but in the word hate the vowel is long because there is a magic e that gives the vowel power to say it’s name. Note: Long vowels are taught only after short vowels are consolidated.
Magic e is sometimes called silent e because you don’t hear the word’s vowel. The magic happens “silently”. In some words, it is apparent, in others not, especially when it is more than 3 syllables for example: ungrateful. The trick with multisyllabic words is to break the word up into it’s syllables and spell it one syllable at a time. UN- GRATE- FUL. Spot the magic e easier now?
Practice is a good way to cement this and you can use our no-prep mazes for this purpose. Fine motor skills and pencil control are also skills that are practiced with mazes. Students with dysgraphia will find this helpful. And it is fun too! Grab your set below.
