Make these adorable gingerbread house photo frame ornaments from craft sticks with your children this Christmas!

Christmas tends to go past so quickly! All the excitement building up during Advent, and then it’s over! I try and make sure to build some memories around this special holiday. Each year we add a photo frame ornament to our tree. This is a fun way to remember all the past years, and how the kids grow!

We’ve made these cute mini wreaths and these handprint photo frames in the past.

At the time, my almost 3-year-old son made this super adorable gingerbread house photo frame today(my daughter made a pretty Santa frame!)

We used the thick craft sticks and I “built” the house for him. Older kids can do this step themselves.

I gave him some bits and pieces: sweeties made from pipecleaners, pompoms, Christmas trees and cotton wool to stick with glue onto his house.

He stuck the pieces on, randomly. We talked about the cotton wool that resembles snow and feels soft. The pretend sweeties from pipecleaners that are so colourful etc.

With small pieces like these, I always give an earbud to use together with the glue. This way the kids only use a small amount. Oh, and do supervise whenever your young child works with small pieces!

I added his name and the year, together with a string at the back to hang it on the tree.

Here it is, hanging on our tree, a special keepsake gingerbread house photo frame ornament! (This photo was taken at school this past week when they had their Christmas party.)

[…] I love the idea of a keepsake handprint photo for Christmas. I have actually used salt dough before with red or green food coloring and it turned out great except now they are cracking only a year later. How do you preserve them for so long or are they not supposed to last that long? My son loves to see how his hand has grown over the past few years. michelle recently posted…Gingerbread House Photo Frame Ornament […]
