Use technology for this fun outdoor activity: following audio instructions!
My daughter is at that age where she loves playing around with a phone. This techno-generation! We could discourage it or, we could use it for learning!
We used the recording option on the phone. I recorded a short series of instruction at first, which she had to follow. This was done outside. Then I made the instructions a bit longer and more complexed. Instructions included things like:
- Walk three steps and give a jump
- Run to the window
- Stop and twirl
- Climb up the stairs of the jungle gym
- Pick a leaf from the overhanging tree branch
- Climb down
- Skip around the swing
- Run as fast as you can and bring me the leave
One could record a few instructions and expect your child to remember the instructions if your aim is to work on memory. If your aim is to work on listening and following instructions, you could allow your child to walk with the phone while carrying out the assignment.
What was more fun is when she got a chance to record instructions for her brother(and cousin). He had to collect all kinds of nature items, which are great for his language development. This activity has great potential as one could give basically any instruction, which could be quite fun! The boys collected their items and made faces with it, so fun!
Would your kids like this activity? This is a great play date activity too! (See this fun one we used string!) One could play indoors or outdoors and the fun possibilities are endless!
