This trellis has been in my store room, mocking me, for almost 5 years! I just could not decide what to do with it! Then. With Christmas coming up, I got this idea of turning it into an advent calendar and card holder!
This ugly, old trellis was painted in a rustic farmhouse style, or some would call it Pottery Barn style.
But only lightly painted, with the dry brushing method: add a little paint on the brush, then brush it a few times onto newspaper to get most of the paint off. Lightly brush long strokes across the wood:
I did the same with the circle wood pieces and added numbers to it:
The idea is to change the advent “packaging” each year to give the trellis a new look. Last year we had Pretty Paper Bags as an advent calendar. It could work on this trellis too. But for this year, I decided on organza bags and round advent cards:
Here is our program for December, unfortunately it is in Afrikaans, but here is a printable alternative, if you want some ideas!
I will have to take some of our bags with us while we are away for the holidays, but these bags are small enough to easily add it to our luggage. This, together with the Kid-made advent bags the kids made will. E a fun countdown to Christmas!
