DIY Roll up and Go Car Mat

I’ve wanted to make a Roll-up-and-Go Car mat for my son when he is a little older, but when one of my daughter’s friends had his party, I thought he would like a car mat like this. So I made him this one, and added the “toolbox” with mini cars as a gift.

Here is what I did:
I’ve used a piece of calico fabric, about 1 meter by 50 centimeters.
I made templates from the number zero from the foam floor puzzles.

I’ve played around with the pieces and also added straight lines, then I drew it on the fabric with a grey pencil. (Apologies, for it is very light)

Then I outlined the road with black paint. This step took the most time.

Filling in the road with more black paint, and the last step was to make the while lines. I’ve used white puffy paint for that.

I am sure any boy, and girl, will love to play with this car mat.

You could add more details, but I’d rather he use his own toys to make a town, speed racing track or whatever his imagination allows, to keep the options open. He could also build a town from recyclables like we did here!
And the best part: it is small and compact to take anywhere! Just roll up and go! Perfect for traveling!
