Make cold porcelain for handprint keepsakes, ornaments etc. that are fun to make and paint!
This homemade “cold porcelain” could be used in so many ways! When it dries, it becomes very hard, and paints easily, almost like ceramic. It is not as grainy as salt dough but dries out quite quickly.
We used it to make handprints and then painted it(a nice keepsake to do every year), but you can use it to make anything:
-animals or people figures
-hearts for valentines day
-Christmas tree ornaments
-letters to do a name or to learn the alphabet
-numbers to learn numbers
-make beads (roll balls and make holes before it dries)
It works best when the mixture is still warm, but be careful, the outside may feel warm, but the inside might be very hot. (I used it for baby’s hand quite quickly, it was still warm, so the impression came out nicely, but Sister’s one we only did about 5 hours later, and it was a bit hard already, so the impression did not come out so clearly.)
To paint was fun, it has a smooth texture and paints easily. It is a very crisp white colour, which you can use as-is, or you can add some food colouring to colour it. Another idea is to press some small beads or bling objects into the warm dough and let it dry like that. So much you can do, let the creative juices flow!
