I’ve wanted to try a homemade paint recipe for some time now, but haven’t gotten around to do it yet, so the other day a reader asked me for a recipe and that prompted me (kicked me) into action!
I’ve asked my Kid Blogger Network buddies for some recipes (find the links at the end of this post), but decided to try this Fingerpaint recipe:
1) Ingredients:
– 3tbs sugar
– 1/2tsp salt
– 1/2 cup corn flour/starch
– 2cups water
2 and 3) cook on medium heat until the color change from white to almost clear
4 and 5) add food coloring when cooled off and mix well
I’ve found the texture quite jelly-like, lovely sensory experience, so, perfect for messy/ finger painting, not for brushes. I first gave them each a blob of paint to explore. Lella had a big paper that covered the whole table, brother sat in his feeding chair with a smaller paper that covered his table. The paint does wash of easily though.
My 1 year old does not like funny textures, although he wanted to taste this. Luckily it is non-toxic, but does not taste nice.
My 3.5 year old enjoyed the messy part of the activity, mixing the colors together etc.
And mom also enjoyed painting!
