During another fun-filled week we talked a bit more about life under sea and different ocean animals. We learned about aquariums too, and how to look after a pet fish.

We worked for half of the week on this fish bowl craft, painting the background first, adding the cellophane “plants” and rice “gravel”. The last day we made fish from shapes, and added shiny shells and bubbles. I covered it with clear cellophane to give it a real glass bowl look.

Sensory Activities

Our sensory bin activities included playing with water and typical aquarium items. The big crab and starfish were small ones that grew bigger the longer they were in the water. Great fun to watch them “grow” each day. We played with moon sand again, together with the shells and ocean themed cocktail sticks. And also “caught” some magnetic fish in the rice bin.

Playdough Activities

With our beach themed microwave playdough we played in different ways: adding shells, to see their impressions in the dough, adding the cocktail sticks to the dough, making all kinds of creations. Making star fish and fish with cookie cutters, and adding our plastic shapes to create all kinds of pictures.

Our school was transformed into an under the sea theme, and these were some of the decorations added to the ones of last week.  We added the orange star fish decorated with sequins to our decoration, the other two photos show the glass doors of the other classes.

The whole week we played with water outside during outside play time, and on Friday all the kids dressed in their swimming clothes, goggles and flippers. We had a water competition, where the students had to walk over the balancing bridge with a spoon of water and fill a bottle at the other side. At the end we saw which group added the most water, without spilling much. Great fun!
