This week we continued with the theme: People who help us. We had lots of visitors this week too, so our normal program was changed up a bit, thus we did not do a lot of crafts and other activities like usual. We had a visit(and colour hair spray) from a hairdresser, the police and a nurse. (Teacher had a visit from a nasty tummy bug, so one day less to do activities.)
Our craft of the week was this face, made with shredded paper, and spray painted, just like the hairdresser sprayed our hair. Note the different types of hair, some short(tearing the paper), some curly(turn the paper strip around your finger first) and some long. The spraying was a challenge for 4-6 year olds in itself, trying to aim the sprayer and pressing it down the same time required fine motor skills and concentration. (Sometimes a craft does not look spectacular, but the learning opportunities during the process is priceless!)
Our fantasy corner was transformed into a restaurant. They played diners, waiters, cooks and cleaners. They designed their own menus too(sneaking in some literacy and numeracy at the same time)!
Each child “wrote” a secret letter to a friend and posted into the post box. The “post man” delivered the post to the friends.
For sensory play we had a bin with shaving cream and corn flour, we had a discussion on the barber that day, and they made food from the play dough too.
We also took a lot of time this week to practise our choral verse, which we said today at the competition venue, and got 90%!
The next two weeks the theme is Farming, so we have lots of fun things planned! Remember to pop in again to see what we learned!
