This week we talked a bit more about celebrations(in between practicing for our Christmas concert, so we have less time for in-class activities as usual). We covered New Year’s Celebrations, Valentine’s Day and Easter.

Crafts
new year cracker
These fire crackers were made by the kids by cutting a rectangle, triangle and another rectangle with small triangles cut for the “flame”. Practicing shapes and scissors skills with this activity. The sequins were added last. With this activity we discussed fire crackers, and safety when they are near fire crackers. Also pressed on their hearts to be considered of neighbours and animals when shooting crackers.

easter cross
We made an Easter cross out of egg cartons, painted it, decorated it with some bling and added a string to hang it up in the class first before taking ot home.

We made a Valentine’s Day card too, which I forgot to take a photo of, will update with the photo soon.

Sensory Play
sensory play
For sensory play the children played hide-and-seek with plastic animals and shredded paper. Then we played with samp, plastic Easter eggs, funnels and spoons.
The Valentine’s Day themed sensory bin was great fun too!

Playdough Activities
playdough activities
Our playdough had a transformation: we mixed it up with glitter! The children loved this and their imagination were sparked(or should I say “sparkled”)!

Baking and Making
rainbow cupcakes
For Baking & Making(which is seen as a science experiment by itself), we made rainbow cupcakes! Teacher mixed up the batter, while explaining the process, and discussing the ingredients. The batter was divided into three plastic bags, blue, red and yellow food colouring were added to the individual bags. The kids mixed these by squishing the bags. Each child had a turn to squeeze from each coloured batch into their cupcake liner. Then it was baked. After it came out the oven, the colours were all intertwined which looked like rainbow colours!

Here is the easy recipe we used:
– 3 eggs
– 1 cup of cake flour
– 1 cup of sugar
– 250 g butter

These were mixed up, and the batter was coloured they I’ve explained before. Easy and yummy!

A fun week of learning about celebrations!
Next week we will talk about shops and shopping, although we are still practicing for our concert and we have evaluation we need to do for our end of the year reports, so our themed activities will most probably be less.
