Name recognition activities

Even though Lella(3 years) can’t spell or recognize her name yet, she is very much interested in names and letters. (sometimes playing, she is the teacher and write the kids’ names, but one can’t even see some resemblence to real letters, lol)!
So I started fun name recognition activities with her: whenever we do an activity and we can make her name with the item or material, we do it. Like these:

– I wrote her name in a highlighter pen, and she traced on the lines
– We made a craft foam handbag, and stuck some letters on that spell her name
– When we did scented sand art, I wrote her name in glue and she used the sand to decorate
– Recycled things: we used a foam tray and plastic spoons with her name and she had to stick the spoon in the right place
– Her name written with wool/yarn
– Her name in the play dough, she had to trace with her finger and with a tooth pick
There are many more name recognition activities to do, the key is to do it often, and always using the same way of writing(the forming of the letters must be how the child will be learning to write in school, no capital letters for a whole name).
Interesting TIP: When I studied B.Ed foundation phase they taught us to always write a child’s name on the upper left hand corner of a drawing paper, making the child use to reading from the top left to right.
How old was/is your child when starting to do name recognition activities? Please comment, I’d love to hear from you!
